The Crescent Volunteer Fire Department is comprised of approximately 20 dedicated volunteers from the Crescent/Council Bluffs area. All of its members are firefighters, each of which is required to receive training to the level of "Firefighter 1" and Hazardous Materials Operations. Many of the firefighters are certified above and beyond the minimum training requirements. Some of the other certifications achieved by our firefighters include "Firefighter 2", "Confined Space Entry", "Rope Rescue Technician", "Driver/Operator", "Vehicle Rescue Technician", "Fire Service Instructor 1", and "Fire Service Instructor 2".

Some of the firefighters are also certified Emergency Medical Technicians ranging from "Basic", "Advanced", and "Paramedic".

The Department's equipment and capabilities include:

  • Two ambulances
    • Both are basic life support units which are certified to operate at the level of an EMT-Intermediate. 
    • "1550" is a Life Line Emergency Vehicle that operates as an Advanced Life Support ambulance
    • "1551" is a Medtec box on a Ford chassis manufactured in 1995 that operates as a Basic Life Support ambulance.
  • Two trucks designed to fight grass/wildland fires
    • "1580" is a 2016 F-550 Mini Pumper/quick attack equipped with 400 gallons of water and class A foam system. It carries tools that are needed for structure fires, wildland, rope rescue, Haz-mat, and vehicle accidents
    • "1585" is a 2004 Dodge truck with 300 gallons of water, class A & B foam and wildland fire tools.
    • Both trucks have enough cab space to carry 5 firefighters in each vehicle
  • "1560" is a 1995 E-One Pumper
    • Carries 1000 gallons of water.
    • Fitted with a dump chute to double as a tanker.
    • Carries extra breathing air bottles, generator and one of the department's two sets of JAWS of Life. This truck is designed to carry 2 firefighters.
  • "1561" is a 1999 Ferrera Engine
    • The primary response apparatus for structure and car fires, hazardous materials spills and vehicle accidents. 
    • Equipped with tools to deal with almost any situation. 
    • Carries 1000 gallons of water. 
    • Class A foam on-board.
    • Designed to carry 5 firefighters. 
    • All of the seats, with the exception of the driver's seat, have self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) mounted in the backs of the seats. 
    • Telescoping light tower mounted on top of the truck to provide scene lighting when operating at night. 
    • Carries extrication equipment including a hydraulic spreader, cutter, and telescoping ram, as well as high pressure air bags.
